Lulu and Lala are twin fairies. We are inspired by the Cottingley Fairies and are pursuing ways to make people feel that these fantasy creatures might exist in reality. This project creates a sense of visual existence through a glasses-free stereoscopic display and a scene created by photogrammetry with real-life sets. However, this visual existence alone does not significantly differ from watching a video. Therefore, our work also incorporates the following non-verbal forms of communication that humans use to form social bonds: eye contact, collaboration using the same musical instrument, musical call and response, and the gift. These universally observed forms of human communication foster a social connection with imaginary beings, eliciting not just a visual, but a profound emotional sense of existence.
